The first painting session of Dialogues of the Figures took place in December in my studio, together with artist Dané Vonk. We had to mix various Earth Pigments with fresh soy milk to produce the paint. Than, in silence, we painted together on one large fabric, while reflecting on artist related questions such as 'what is your favorite tool?' and 'how do you stay focused?' It clarified to work on the conditions of these sessions more. When painting horizontal (fabric lying flat on a table), you easily stay long in one spot and focus on small details. Since I am looking for rough gestures, handwriting and symbols, it is time to make a structure that evokes this and allows us to paint vertically. I am curious to see and experience the difference.
