Leather
Talk
In collaboration with musician and sound designer Andrius Dereviancenko.
A bag of leather scraps has been reincarnated into a family of beings. Through a dialogue of movement, structure and sound, the characters of different ages are expressed: a playful child, self-absorbed teenagers, caring parents and power relations; the imperceptible but recognizable dynamics of a family system.
This video, originally shot in 2016, was forgotten until recently due to the lack of sound. When Andrius saw it, he got inspired to producing a soundtrack for it together. During this process I quickly realized that a video or image without a context can be perceived in many different ways. Looking for a common starting point, we agreed that each piece of leather had its own character. This led to defining their characters; reading about family systems; developing individual sounds and connecting them in a conversation. It also resulted in a growing curiosity to explore the relationship between experimental sounds and materials further.
